For 2012/13 the increase in personal allowance has a respective decrease in higher rate threshold so that 40% payers only get 20% relief. For 2013/14 however the higher rate threshold is reduced to eradicate any relief at all. There are many people particularly working in London who have to earn this magnitude of salary to justify paying rising travel costs and to not give them any relief at all is unfair and a complete disincentive for people in all professions who have studied for years to make something of their lives. Welcome the limit on tax relief available to the super rich. I would like to see a sliding scale higher tax rate rather than a leap into the 40% band as an incentive for middle income workers.
